Position Defense Appropriations
“As Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, I am pleased that Republican leadership has finally allowed the Subcommittee to negotiate a bipartisan Fiscal Year 2026 Defense Appropriations Act that can win broad support in the House. Like previous years, months of delays could have been saved if Republicans had not included outrageous partisan riders in the House version of this bill. I'm pleased that all these partisan provisions were removed in the negotiation process. This compromise legislation provides our service members with the training and equipment necessary to complete their missions and come home safely. The bill also prioritizes our military families by including a 3.8 percent pay increase. Importantly, the bill also includes $1.27 billion for the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program, which will begin to alleviate some of the damage done to medical research by severe cuts in the previous fiscal year's Continuing Resolution. I am also pleased that the bill includes robust funding for environmental remediation efforts, including research on PFAS destruction technology.”

Position Immigration Enforcement and DHS Funding
“I refuse to vote for any funding for the Department of Homeland Security while the Constitutional rights of Minnesotans are being violated. During the Trump Administration's invasion and occupation of our state, federal immigration agents have racially profiled our neighbors, apprehended children, killed an innocent mother, disappeared community members, injured people who were taken into custody, and arrested multiple U.S. citizens without cause. Agents of the Department of Homeland Security at the direction of Secretary Noem have weaponized the federal government against communities across this nation, and they are acting with impunity. Secretary Noem should be impeached and removed from office for the appalling conduct that her leadership has empowered. Americans should be outraged that House Republicans have given their stamp of approval for DHS to continue their campaign of chaos, violence, and tyranny.”

Position Israel-Palestine Policy
“Not one dollar from United States taxpayers should be used to commit human rights violations, demolish families' homes, or permanently annex Palestinian lands. Americans provide billions of dollars in assistance for Israel's government every year – those dollars should be used to improve Israel's security, not to advance the extremist aims of the Netanyahu government. As the Netanyahu government continues to expand its annexation of the West Bank, this legislation is a timely reminder to our ally of the United States' position that peace must remain the objective. Peace can only be achieved through a meaningful two-state solution, and Congress has a moral obligation to hold our ally Israel accountable for the well-documented mistreatment of Palestinian children and families living under Israeli military occupation.”
