Position DHS/ICE oversight
“As a former federal prosecutor and mayor, I worked with law enforcement every day–courageous women and men who put service above self. What we see now isn't law enforcement—it's lawlessness. Kristi Noem and her accomplices have unleashed brutality in the service of political ambition, killing American citizens, locking up 5 year-old children, and terrorizing our communities. This conduct warrants independent, criminal investigations of everyone involved, including Secretary Noem herself. After repeatedly calling for Noem's resignation, I have now signed onto articles of impeachment, because removing her comprises the first step toward restoring law and order in this country. There must be more. Specifically, I would remind Secretary Noem and every ICE official that there is a 5 year statute of limitations for criminal indictment under federal law.”

Position Housing affordability
“We can't bring down housing prices without closing the gap between supply and demand in the market. No community feels this more acutely than mine. I'm proud to help push these bills across the finish line as a down payment on my commitment to push for many long-overdue reforms to federal housing policy. Growing bipartisan support to tackle our nation's housing affordability crisis offers a hopeful sign, but we have much more work to do. Congress must press on, and I have several bipartisan housing bills ready to deliver real relief. Let's get it done.”

Position ICE funding/immigration enforcement
“I voted against giving another dime to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement or the Department of Homeland Security. ICE has abandoned its mission of removing violent criminals in favor of detaining children, shooting Americans, and terrorizing our communities. Before Congress approves any additional ICE funding, we must ensure that like every other law enforcement agency in this nation, ICE is held accountable to the standards embedded in the Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution. That begins with a full, transparent investigation into ICE's deplorable and oppressive conduct in Minneapolis.”
