Position Healthcare/Medicaid
“Today, we voted once again on a deeply flawed piece of legislation to kick people off their healthcare and steal nutrition assistance from millions more. This bill is bad for America, our health, and our future. I stood with all House Democrats to vote no on this big, ugly, harmful, and wasteful bill. Tuesday, I offered five amendments during the Rules committee markup to encourage my Republican colleagues to improve childcare, fund urban hospitals, hold DOGE accountable within the DoD, and say what we are all thinking about the bill: nobody wants this. Republicans refused to entertain any of them. Instead of passing legislation that improves the lives of the people they serve, Republicans continue to push their unpopular and harmful agenda. The Republicans voted to let seniors and children go hungry, add billions of dollars to the national debt, and steal healthcare from millions in the largest Medicaid cut in history. I am disgusted to see the livelihood of our people so callously dismissed, and I will continue to fight to protect the health and safety of all Americans.”

Position Immigration/executive orders
“The overwhelming majority of the President's Executive Orders focus more on attacking Americans rather than improving their lives. President Trump picked up right where he left off with his racist and xenophobic attacks against immigrant communities. Ending birthright citizenship and humanitarian pathways to citizenship for refugees not only violates the 14th Amendment, but is also cruel and does nothing to actually address border security, nor does it meaningfully reform our immigration system. Moreover, orders to dismantle Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives demonstrate the President's obsession with making America appear how he wants it to look while only benefiting those he deems worthy. There are countless other Executive Orders that seek nothing more than to inflame partisan issues and further divide Americans. Ultimately, there is one common theme today, a guiding principle of the Trump Presidency, the prioritization of petty grievances and attacks on our most vulnerable. None of the President's Executive Orders take concrete action to lower housing costs, make groceries more affordable, or meaningfully improve the daily lives of hard-working Americans. Sadly, this is what was expected. I urge the President to stop putting the interests of wealthy extremists like Elon Musk over the interests of the American people.”

Position National defense/NDAA
“As a Navy Veteran and the former Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, I fought hard and succeeded in securing 29 legislative priorities—totaling over $369 million in authorized funding—to strengthen our national security and provide necessary resources for our servicemembers and their families. While Republicans refuse to hold the President accountable for his actions, I fought back against the politicization of our military, defeated initiatives that attacked women and people of color, corrected bigoted attempts to rename bases for confederate secessionists, and reined in Donald Trump's war of choice in the Middle East. Our servicemembers and military families deserve the best, and I'm proud to champion and support efforts that will implement critical upgrades in military technology and equipment, give our servicemembers a well-earned pay increase, protect collective bargaining rights, expand mental health resources, invest in our local small businesses, and work on a path forward to consolidate our overly complicated duty status system.”
